They spoke among themselves: “Build him a pyre and then throw him into the furnace.”

    Fa-araaduu bihi kaidan faja'alnaahumul asfaliin(a)

They had contrived an evil plan against him, but We abased them all.

Waqaala innii dzaahibun ila rabbii sayahdiin(i)

Abraham said: “I am going to my Lord; He will guide me.

    Rabbi hab lii minash-shaalihiin(a)

Lord, grant me a righteous son.”

    Fabasy-syarnaahu bighulaamin haliimin

    (In response to this prayer) We gave him the good news of a prudent boy;

Falammaa balagha ma'ahussa'ya qaala yaa bunai-ya innii ara fiil manaami annii adzbahuka faanzhur maadzaa tara qaala yaa abatiif'al maa tu'maru satajidunii in syaa-allahu minash-shaabiriin(a)

and when he was old enough to go about and work with him, (one day) Abraham said to him: “My son, I see in my dream that I am slaughtering you. So consider (and tell me) what you think.” He said: “Do as you are bidden. You will find me, if Allah so wills, among the steadfast.”

    Falammaa aslamaa watallahu liljabiin(i)

When both surrendered (to Allah's command) and Abraham flung the son down on his forehead,

    Wanaadainaahu an yaa ibraahiim(u)

    We cried out: “O Abraham,

Qad shaddaqtarru'yaa innaa kadzalika najziil muhsiniin(a)

you have indeed fulfilled your dream. Thus do We reward the good-doers.”

    Inna hadzaa lahuwal balaa-ul mubiin(u)

This was indeed a plain trial.

    Wafadainaahu bidzibhin 'azhiimin

And We ransomed him with a mighty sacrifice,

    Salaamun 'ala ibraahiim(a)

    Peace be upon Abraham.

    Kadzalika najziil muhsiniin(a)

Thus do We reward the good-doers.

    Innahu min 'ibaadinaal mu'miniin(a)

Surely he was one of Our believing servants.

    Wabasy-syarnaahu biishaaqa nabii-yan minash-shaalihiin(a)

And We gave him the good news of Isaac, a Prophet and among the righteous ones.

Wabaaraknaa 'alaihi wa'ala ishaaqa wamin dzurrii-yatihimaa muhsinun wazhaalimun linafsihi mubiinun

And We blessed him and Isaac. Among the offspring of the two some did good and some plainly wronged themselves.

    Walaqad manannaa 'ala muusa wahaaruun(a)

Verily We bestowed Our favours on Moses and Aaron

    Wanajjainaahumaa waqaumahumaa minal karbil 'azhiim(i)

and We delivered both of them and their people from the great calamity.

    Wanasharnaahum fakaanuu humul ghaalibiin(a)

We succoured them, and they gained the upper hand (against their enemies).

    Waaatainaahumaal kitaabal mustabiin(a)

We granted them a Clear Book,

    Wahadainaahumaash-shiraathal mustaqiim(a)

and showed them the Straight Way,

    Wataraknaa 'alaihimaa fii-aakhiriin(a)

and preserved for them a good name among posterity.

    Salaamun 'ala muusa wahaaruun(a)

Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.

Surely, Elias too was among the Messengers.

    Idz qaala liqaumihi alaa tattaquun(a)

(Call to mind) when he said to his people: “Will you not fear Allah?

    Atad'uuna ba'laa watadzaruuna ahsanal khaaliqiin(a)

Do you call upon Baal and forsake the Best of the Creators?

    Allaha rabbakum warabba aabaa-ikumul au-waliin(a)

Allah is your Lord and the Lord of your ancestors of yore.”

    Fakadz-dzabuuhu fa-innahum lamuhdharuun(a)

But they denounced him as a liar, so they will surely be arraigned (for punishment),

    Ilaa 'ibaadallahil mukhlashiin(a)

    except Allah's chosen servants.

    Wataraknaa 'alaihi fii-aakhiriin(a)

We preserved a good name for him among posterity.

    Salaamun 'ala il yaasiin(a)

    Peace be upon Elias.

    Innaa kadzalika najziil muhsiniin(a)

Thus do We reward the good-doers.

    Innahu min 'ibaadinaal mu'miniin(a)

He was one of Our believing servants.

    Wa-inna luuthan laminal mursaliin(a)

And Lot too was one of the Messengers.

    Idz najjainaahu wa-ahlahu ajma'iin(a)

(Call to mind) when We delivered him and all his kinsfolk,

    Ilaa 'ajuuzan fiil ghaabiriin(a)

except for an old woman who was among those that stayed behind.

    Tsumma dammarnaaaakhariin(a)

Then We utterly destroyed the rest of them.

    Wa-innakum latamurruuna 'alaihim mushbihiin(a)

You pass by their desolate habitations in the morning

    Wa bil laili afalaa ta'qiluun(a)

and at night. Do you still not understand?

    Wa-inna yuunusa laminal mursaliin(a)

And Jonah too was one of the Messengers.

    Idz abaqa ilal fulkil masyhuun(i)

Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship,

    Fasaahama fakaana minal mudhadhiin(a)

cast lots, and was among the losers.

    Fal taqamahul huutu wahuwa muliimun

Then a fish swallowed him, and he was blameworthy.

    Falaulaa annahu kaana minal musabbihiin(a)

Had he not been one of those who glorify Allah,

Lalabitsa fii bathnihi ila yaumi yub'atsuun(a)

he would certainly have remained in its belly till the Day of Resurrection.

    Fanabadznaahu bil 'araa-i wahuwa saqiimun

    But We threw him on a wide bare tract of land while he was ill;

    Wa-anbatnaa 'alaihi syajaratan min yaqthiinin

and caused a gourd tree to grow over him,

    Wa-arsalnaahu ila mii-ati alfin au yaziiduun(a)

and We sent him forth to a nation of a hundred thousand or more,

    Faaamanuu famatta'naahum ila hiinin

and they believed. So We let them enjoy life for a while.

    Faastaftihim alirabbikal banaatu walahumul banuun(a)

So ask their opinion: “(Are you convinced) that your Lord should have daughters and you should have sons?

Am khalaqnaal malaa-ikata inaatsan wahum syaahiduun(a)

Did We create the angels as females the while they witnessed?”

    Alaa innahum min ifkihim layaquuluun(a)

Behold, it is one of their fabrications that they say:

    Waladallahu wa-innahum lakaadzibuun(a)

“Allah has begotten.” They are liars!

Did He choose daughters rather than sons?

    Afalaa tadzakkaruun(a)

Will you then not take heed?

    Am lakum sulthaanun mubiinun

Do you have any clear authority for such claims?

Waja'aluu bainahu wabainal jinnati nasaban walaqad 'alimatil jinnatu innahum lamuhdharuun(a)

They have established a kinship between Allah and the angels; and the angels know well that these people will be arraigned (as culprits).

    Subhaanallahi 'ammaa yashifuun(a)

(They say): “Exalted be Allah above what they attribute to Him,

    Ilaa 'ibaadallahil mukhlashiin(a)

all of them except the chosen servants of Allah.

    Fa-innakum wamaa ta'buduun(a)

    So you and your deities

    Maa antum 'alaihi bifaatiniin(a)

shall not be able to tempt anyone away from Allah

    Ilaa man huwa shaalil jahiim(i)

except him who shall roast in the Blazing Fire.

Wamaa minnaa ilaa lahu maqaamun ma'luumun

As for us, there is none but has an appointed station.

    Wa-innaa lanahnush-shaaffuun(a)

Verily we range ourselves in rows (as humble servants)

    Wa-innaa lanahnul musabbihuun(a)

and we are of those who glorify Allah.”

    Wa-in kaanuu layaquuluun(a)

    They used to say before:

Lau anna 'indanaa dzikran minal au-waliin(a)

“If only we had the Reminder which had been granted to the people of yore

    Lakunnaa 'ibaadallahil mukhlashiin(a)

we would surely have been Allah's chosen servants.”

    Fakafaruu bihi fasaufa ya'lamuun(a)

But when it came to them, they rejected it. They shall soon come to know (the end of such an attitude).

    Fa-idzaa nazala bisaahatihim fasaa-a shabaahul mundzariin(a)

When that chastisement will descend upon their courtyard, evil shall that Day be for those who had been warned.
