About Surah Al-Falaq
Al-Falaq (“The Daybreak”) and An-Nas are known together as al-Mu'awwidhatayn — the two surahs of seeking refuge with Allah.
In the hadith
- Before sleeping, the Prophet ﷺ would recite Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas into his cupped hands and wipe them over his body. (Sahih al-Bukhari 5017)
- “Verses have been revealed tonight the like of which has never been seen”: Al-Falaq and An-Nas. (Sahih Muslim 814)
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ
قُلْ اَعُوْذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِۙ
Qul a'uudzu birabbil falaq(i)
Say: “I seek refuge with the Lord of the rising day;
وَمِنْ شَرِّ غَاسِقٍ اِذَا وَقَبَۙ
Wamin syarri ghaasiqin idzaa waqab(a)
from the evil of night's darkness when it spreads around;
وَمِنْ شَرِّ النَّفّٰثٰتِ فِى الْعُقَدِۙ
Wamin syarrin-naffaatsaati fiil 'uqad(i)
from the evil of the women who blow on knots;
وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ اِذَا حَسَدَ ࣖ
Wamin syarri haasidin idzaa hasad(a)
and from the evil of the envier when he envies.”
