Surah Al-Buruj: Arabic, Transliteration & Translation

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

1. 85:1

   وَالسَّمَاۤءِ ذَاتِ الْبُرُوْجِۙ

   Wassamaa-i dzaatil buruuj(i)

   By the heaven with its impregnable castles;

2. 85:2

   وَالْيَوْمِ الْمَوْعُوْدِۙ

   Wal yaumil mau'uud(i)

   by the Promised Day,

3. 85:3

   وَشَاهِدٍ وَّمَشْهُوْدٍۗ

   Wasyaahidin wamasyhuudin

   and by the witness and what is witnessed:

4. 85:4

   قُتِلَ اَصْحٰبُ الْاُخْدُوْدِۙ

   Qutila ashhaabul akhduud(i)

   the people of the pit were destroyed

5. 85:5

   النَّارِ ذَاتِ الْوَقُوْدِۙ

   Annaari dzaatil waquud(i)

   with fire abounding in fuel,

6. 85:6

   اِذْ هُمْ عَلَيْهَا قُعُوْدٌۙ

   Idz hum 'alaihaa qu'uudun

   while they sat around it,

7. 85:7

   وَّهُمْ عَلٰى مَا يَفْعَلُوْنَ بِالْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ شُهُوْدٌ ۗ

   Wahum 'ala maa yaf'aluuna bil mu'miniina syuhuudun

   and were witnessing what they did to the believers.

8. 85:8

   وَمَا نَقَمُوْا مِنْهُمْ اِلَّآ اَنْ يُّؤْمِنُوْا بِاللّٰهِ الْعَزِيْزِ الْحَمِيْدِۙ

   Wamaa naqamuu minhum ilaa an yu'minuu billahil 'aziizil hamiid(i)

   Against these they had no grudge except that they believed in Allah, the Most Mighty, the Most Praiseworthy,

9. 85:9

   الَّذِيْ لَهٗ مُلْكُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ ۗوَاللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ شَهِيْدٌ ۗ

   Al-ladzii lahu mulkus-samaawaati wal ardhi wallahu 'ala kulli syai-in syahiidun

   to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. Allah witnesses everything.

10. 85:10

    اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ فَتَنُوا الْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنٰتِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَتُوْبُوْا فَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ جَهَنَّمَ وَلَهُمْ عَذَابُ الْحَرِيْقِۗ

    Innal-ladziina fatanuul mu'miniina wal mu'minaati tsumma lam yatuubuu falahum 'adzaabu jahannama walahum 'adzaabul hariiq(i)

    Surely those who tormented the believing men and the believing women and then did not repent, theirs shall be the chastisement of Hell, and theirs shall be the chastisement of burning.

11. 85:11

    اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَهُمْ جَنّٰتٌ تَجْرِيْ مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْاَنْهٰرُ ەۗ ذٰلِكَ الْفَوْزُ الْكَبِيْرُۗ

    Innal-ladziina aamanuu wa'amiluush-shaalihaati lahum jannaatun tajrii min tahtihaal anhaaru dzalikal fauzul kabiir(u)

    As for those who believed and acted righteously, theirs shall be Gardens beneath which rivers flow. That is the great triumph.

12. 85:12

    اِنَّ بَطْشَ رَبِّكَ لَشَدِيْدٌ ۗ

    Inna bathsya rabbika lasyadiidun

    Stern indeed is your Lord's punishment.

13. 85:13

    اِنَّهٗ هُوَ يُبْدِئُ وَيُعِيْدُۚ

    Innahu huwa yubdi-u wayu'iid(u)

    He it is Who creates for the first time and He it is Who will create again,

14. 85:14

    وَهُوَ الْغَفُوْرُ الْوَدُوْدُۙ

    Wahuwal ghafuurul waduud(u)

    and He is the Ever Forgiving, the Most Loving

15. 85:15

    ذُو الْعَرْشِ الْمَجِيْدُۙ

    Dzuul 'arsyil majiid(u)

    – the Lord of the Glorious Throne,

16. 85:16

    فَعَّالٌ لِّمَا يُرِيْدُۗ

    Fa'aaalun limaa yuriid(u)

    the Executor of what He wills.

17. 85:17

    هَلْ اَتٰىكَ حَدِيْثُ الْجُنُوْدِۙ

    Hal ataaka hadiitsul junuud(i)

    Has the story of the armies reached you,

18. 85:18

    فِرْعَوْنَ وَثَمُوْدَۗ

    Fir'auna watsamuud(a)

    the armies of Pharaoh and Thamud?

19. 85:19

    بَلِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا فِيْ تَكْذِيْبٍۙ

    Balil-ladziina kafaruu fii takdziibin

    The unbelievers are indeed engaged in denying it, calling it a lie,

20. 85:20

    وَّاللّٰهُ مِنْ وَّرَاۤىِٕهِمْ مُّحِيْطٌۚ

    Wallahu min waraa-ihim muhiithun

    although Allah surrounds them.

21. 85:21

    بَلْ هُوَ قُرْاٰنٌ مَّجِيْدٌۙ

    Bal huwa quraanun majiidun

    Nay; but this is a glorious Qur'an,

22. 85:22

    فِيْ لَوْحٍ مَّحْفُوْظٍ ࣖ

    Fii lauhin mahfuuzhin

    inscribed on a well-guarded Tablet.
