Surah Al-Inshiqaq: Arabic, Transliteration & Translation

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

1. 84:1

   اِذَا السَّمَاۤءُ انْشَقَّتْۙ

   Idzaas-samaa-uun syaqqat

   When the sky is rent asunder

2. 84:2

   وَاَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْۙ

   Wa-adzinat lirabbihaa wahuqqat

   and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should;

3. 84:3

   وَاِذَا الْاَرْضُ مُدَّتْۙ

   Wa-idzaal ardhu muddat

   and when the earth is stretched out

4. 84:4

   وَاَلْقَتْ مَا فِيْهَا وَتَخَلَّتْۙ

   Wa-alqat maa fiihaa watakhallat

   and casts out what is within it and is emptied,

5. 84:5

   وَاَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْۗ

   Wa-adzinat lirabbihaa wahuqqat

   and hearkens to the command of its Lord, doing what it should.

6. 84:6

   يٰٓاَيُّهَا الْاِنْسَانُ اِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ اِلٰى رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلٰقِيْهِۚ

   Yaa ai-yuhaa-insaanu innaka kaadihun ila rabbika kadhan famulaaqiih(i)

   O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him.

7. 84:7

   فَاَمَّا مَنْ اُوْتِيَ كِتٰبَهٗ بِيَمِيْنِهٖۙ

   Fa-ammaa man uutiya kitaabahu biyamiinih(i)

   Whoever is given the Record in his right hand

8. 84:8

   فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَّسِيْرًاۙ

   Fasaufa yuhaasabu hisaaban yasiiran

   shall be called to an easy accounting,

9. 84:9

   وَّيَنْقَلِبُ اِلٰٓى اَهْلِهٖ مَسْرُوْرًاۗ

   Wayanqalibu ila ahlihi masruuran

   and shall return to his people joyfully.

10. 84:10

    وَاَمَّا مَنْ اُوْتِيَ كِتٰبَهٗ وَرَاۤءَ ظَهْرِهٖۙ

    Wa-ammaa man uutiya kitaabahu waraa-a zhahrih(i)

    But he who is given the Record behind his back,

11. 84:11

    فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوْ ثُبُوْرًاۙ

    Fasaufa yad'uu tsubuuran

    shall cry for “perdition,”

12. 84:12

    وَّيَصْلٰى سَعِيْرًاۗ

    Wayashla sa'iiran

    and will enter the Blazing Fire.

13. 84:13

    اِنَّهٗ كَانَ فِيْٓ اَهْلِهٖ مَسْرُوْرًاۗ

    Innahu kaana fii ahlihi masruuran

    He used to live joyfully among his people,

14. 84:14

    اِنَّهٗ ظَنَّ اَنْ لَّنْ يَّحُوْرَ ۛ

    Innahu zhanna an lan yahuur(a)

    thinking he would never revert (to Us).

15. 84:15

    بَلٰىۛ اِنَّ رَبَّهٗ كَانَ بِهٖ بَصِيْرًاۗ

    Bala inna rabbahu kaana bihi bashiiran

    But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him.

16. 84:16

    فَلَآ اُقْسِمُ بِالشَّفَقِۙ

    Falaa uqsimu bisy-syafaq(i)

    Nay; I swear by the twilight;

17. 84:17

    وَالَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَۙ

    Wallaili wamaa wasaq(a)

    and by the night and what it enfolds,

18. 84:18

    وَالْقَمَرِ اِذَا اتَّسَقَۙ

    Wal qamari idzaaattasaq(a)

    and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness:

19. 84:19

    لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَنْ طَبَقٍۗ

    Latarkabunna thabaqan 'an thabaqin

    you shall proceed onwards from stage to stage.

20. 84:20

    فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُوْنَۙ

    Famaa lahum laa yu'minuun(a)

    So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe,

21. 84:21

    وَاِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْقُرْاٰنُ لَا يَسْجُدُوْنَ ۗ ۩

    Wa-idzaa quri-a 'alaihimul quraanu laa yasjuduun(a)

    and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves?

22. 84:22

    بَلِ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا يُكَذِّبُوْنَۖ

    Balil-ladziina kafaruu yukadz-dzibuun(a)

    Instead, the unbelievers reject it, calling it a lie.

23. 84:23

    وَاللّٰهُ اَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوْعُوْنَۖ

    Wallahu a'lamu bimaa yuu'uun(a)

    Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record).

24. 84:24

    فَبَشِّرْهُمْ بِعَذَابٍ اَلِيْمٍۙ

    Fabasy-syirhum bi'adzaabin aliimin

    So give them the good news of a painful chastisement,

25. 84:25

    اِلَّا الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا وَعَمِلُوا الصّٰلِحٰتِ لَهُمْ اَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُوْنٍ ࣖ

    Ilaal-ladziina aamanuu wa'amiluush-shaalihaati lahum ajrun ghairu mamnuunin

    except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward.
