Surah Al-Mutaffifin: Arabic, Transliteration & Translation

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

1. 83:1

   وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِيْنَۙ

   Wailul(n)-lilmuthaffifiin(a)

   Woe to the stinters;

2. 83:2

   الَّذِيْنَ اِذَا اكْتَالُوْا عَلَى النَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُوْنَۖ

   Al-ladziina idzaaaktaaluuu 'alannaasi yastaufuun(a)

   those who, when they take from others by measure, take their full share;

3. 83:3

   وَاِذَا كَالُوْهُمْ اَوْ وَّزَنُوْهُمْ يُخْسِرُوْنَۗ

   Wa-idzaa kaaluuhum au wazanuuhum yukhsiruun(a)

   but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due.

4. 83:4

   اَلَا يَظُنُّ اُولٰۤىِٕكَ اَنَّهُمْ مَّبْعُوْثُوْنَۙ

   Alaa yazhunnu uula-ika annahum mab'uutsuun(a)

   Do they not realise that they will be raised to life

5. 83:5

   لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيْمٍۙ

   Liyaumin 'azhiimin

   on a Great Day,

6. 83:6

   يَّوْمَ يَقُوْمُ النَّاسُ لِرَبِّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَۗ

   Yauma yaquumunnaasu lirabbil 'aalamiin(a)

   a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe?

7. 83:7

   كَلَّآ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الْفُجَّارِ لَفِيْ سِجِّيْنٍۗ

   Kalaa inna kitaabal fujjaari lafii sijjiinin

   No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house!

8. 83:8

   وَمَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا سِجِّيْنٌۗ

   Wamaa adraaka maa sijjiinun

   And how would you know what the Record of the prison-house is?

9. 83:9

   كِتٰبٌ مَّرْقُوْمٌۗ

   Kitaabun marquumun

   It is a Book inscribed.

10. 83:10

    وَيْلٌ يَّوْمَىِٕذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِيْنَۙ

    Wailun yauma-idzil(n)-lilmukadz-dzibiin(a)

    Woe, then, to those that give the lie,

11. 83:11

    الَّذِيْنَ يُكَذِّبُوْنَ بِيَوْمِ الدِّيْنِۗ

    Al-ladziina yukadz-dzibuuna biyaumiddiin(i)

    those that give the lie to the Day of Recompense.

12. 83:12

    وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهٖٓ اِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ اَثِيْمٍۙ

    Wamaa yukadz-dzibu bihi ilaa kullu mu'tadin atsiimin

    Yet none gives the lie to it except the transgressor immersed in sin;

13. 83:13

    اِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالَ اَسَاطِيْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَۗ

    Idzaa tutla 'alaihi aayaatunaa qaala asaathiirul au-waliin(a)

    who, when Our verses are recited to him, says: “Mere tales of olden times!”

14. 83:14

    كَلَّا بَلْ ۜرَانَ عَلٰى قُلُوْبِهِمْ مَّا كَانُوْا يَكْسِبُوْنَ

    Kalaa bal raana 'ala quluubihim maa kaanuu yaksibuun(a)

    No indeed! The truth is that their hearts have become rusted on account of their evil deeds.

15. 83:15

    كَلَّآ اِنَّهُمْ عَنْ رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَىِٕذٍ لَّمَحْجُوْبُوْنَۗ

    Kalaa innahum 'an rabbihim yauma-idzin lamahjuubuun(a)

    No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from seeing their Lord,

16. 83:16

    ثُمَّ اِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا الْجَحِيْمِۗ

    Tsumma innahum lashaaluul jahiim(i)

    and then they shall enter Hell,

17. 83:17

    ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هٰذَا الَّذِيْ كُنْتُمْ بِهٖ تُكَذِّبُوْنَۗ

    Tsumma yuqaalu hadzaal-ladzii kuntum bihi tukadz-dzibuun(a)

    whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.”

18. 83:18

    كَلَّآ اِنَّ كِتٰبَ الْاَبْرَارِ لَفِيْ عِلِّيِّيْنَۗ

    Kalaa inna kitaabal abraari lafii 'illii-yiin(a)

    No indeed! Verily, the deeds of the virtuous shall be in the record of the exalted ones.

19. 83:19

    وَمَآ اَدْرٰىكَ مَا عِلِّيُّوْنَۗ

    Wamaa adraaka maa 'illii-yuun(a)

    And what do you know what the Record of the exalted ones is?

20. 83:20

    كِتٰبٌ مَّرْقُوْمٌۙ

    Kitaabun marquumun

    It is a Book inscribed,

21. 83:21

    يَّشْهَدُهُ الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَۗ

    Yasyhaduhul muqarrabuun(a)

    which the angels placed near Allah to safeguard.

22. 83:22

    اِنَّ الْاَبْرَارَ لَفِيْ نَعِيْمٍۙ

    Innal abraara lafii na'iimin

    Verily the virtuous shall be in Bliss;

23. 83:23

    عَلَى الْاَرَاۤىِٕكِ يَنْظُرُوْنَۙ

    'Alal araa-iki yanzhuruun(a)

    resting on couches, looking around.

24. 83:24

    تَعْرِفُ فِيْ وُجُوْهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ النَّعِيْمِۚ

    Ta'rifu fii wujuuhihim nadhratanna'iim(i)

    You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss.

25. 83:25

    يُسْقَوْنَ مِنْ رَّحِيْقٍ مَّخْتُوْمٍۙ

    Yusqauna min rahiiqin makhtuumin

    They will be served a drink of the finest sealed wine,

26. 83:26

    خِتٰمُهٗ مِسْكٌ ۗوَفِيْ ذٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ الْمُتَنَافِسُوْنَۗ

    Khitaamuhu miskun wafii dzalika falyatanaafasil mutanaafisuun(a)

    whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that –

27. 83:27

    وَمِزَاجُهٗ مِنْ تَسْنِيْمٍۙ

    Wamizaajuhu min tasniimin

    a wine whose mixture is Tasnim,

28. 83:28

    عَيْنًا يَّشْرَبُ بِهَا الْمُقَرَّبُوْنَۗ

    'Ainan yasyrabu bihaal muqarrabuun(a)

    a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink.

29. 83:29

    اِنَّ الَّذِيْنَ اَجْرَمُوْا كَانُوْا مِنَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا يَضْحَكُوْنَۖ

    Innal-ladziina ajramuu kaanuu minal-ladziina aamanuu yadhhakuun(a)

    Behold, the wicked were wont to laugh at the believers:

30. 83:30

    وَاِذَا مَرُّوْا بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُوْنَۖ

    Wa-idzaa marruu bihim yataghaamazuun(a)

    when they passed by them they winked,

31. 83:31

    وَاِذَا انْقَلَبُوْٓا اِلٰٓى اَهْلِهِمُ انْقَلَبُوْا فَكِهِيْنَۖ

    Wa-idzaaanqalabuu ila ahlihimuunqalabuu fakihiin(a)

    and when they went back to their families, they went back jesting,

32. 83:32

    وَاِذَا رَاَوْهُمْ قَالُوْٓا اِنَّ هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ لَضَاۤلُّوْنَۙ

    Wa-idzaa ra-auhum qaaluuu inna ha'ulaa-i ladhaalluun(a)

    and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”;

33. 83:33

    وَمَآ اُرْسِلُوْا عَلَيْهِمْ حٰفِظِيْنَۗ

    Wamaa ursiluu 'alaihim haafizhiin(a)

    (they said so although) they had not been appointed watchers over them.

34. 83:34

    فَالْيَوْمَ الَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْا مِنَ الْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُوْنَۙ

    Fal yaumal-ladziina aamanuu minal kuffaari yadhhakuun(a)

    But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers;

35. 83:35

    عَلَى الْاَرَاۤىِٕكِ يَنْظُرُوْنَۗ

    'Alal araa-iki yanzhuruun(a)

    seated upon their couches, they are looking around.

36. 83:36

    هَلْ ثُوِّبَ الْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوْا يَفْعَلُوْنَ ࣖ

    Hal tsuu-wibal kuffaaru maa kaanuu yaf'aluun(a)

    Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds?
