Surah Al-Layl: Arabic, Transliteration & Translation

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

1. 92:1

   وَالَّيْلِ اِذَا يَغْشٰىۙ

   Wallaili idzaa yaghsya

   By the night when it enshrouds,

2. 92:2

   وَالنَّهَارِ اِذَا تَجَلّٰىۙ

   Wannahaari idzaa tajalla

   and by the day when it breaks in its glory,

3. 92:3

   وَمَا خَلَقَ الذَّكَرَ وَالْاُنْثٰىٓ ۙ

   Wamaa khalaqadz-dzakara wal antsa

   and by Him Who created the male and the female:

4. 92:4

   اِنَّ سَعْيَكُمْ لَشَتّٰىۗ

   Inna sa'yakum lasyatta

   surely your strivings are divergent.

5. 92:5

   فَاَمَّا مَنْ اَعْطٰى وَاتَّقٰىۙ

   Fa-ammaa man a'tha waattaqa

   As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him),

6. 92:6

   وَصَدَّقَ بِالْحُسْنٰىۙ

   Washaddaqa bil husna

   and affirmed the Truth of goodness:

7. 92:7

   فَسَنُيَسِّرُهٗ لِلْيُسْرٰىۗ

   Fasanuyassiruhu lilyusra

   We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss.

8. 92:8

   وَاَمَّا مَنْۢ بَخِلَ وَاسْتَغْنٰىۙ

   Wa-ammaa man bakhila waastaghna

   As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah),

9. 92:9

   وَكَذَّبَ بِالْحُسْنٰىۙ

   Wakadz-dzaba bil husna

   and denied the Truth of goodness:

10. 92:10

    فَسَنُيَسِّرُهٗ لِلْعُسْرٰىۗ

    Fasanuyassiruhu lil'usra

    We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship,

11. 92:11

    وَمَا يُغْنِيْ عَنْهُ مَالُهٗٓ اِذَا تَرَدّٰىٓۙ

    Wamaa yughnii 'anhu maaluhu idzaa taradda

    and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes.

12. 92:12

    اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا لَلْهُدٰىۖ

    Inna 'alainaa lalhuda

    Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way,

13. 92:13

    وَاِنَّ لَنَا لَلْاٰخِرَةَ وَالْاُوْلٰىۗ

    Wa-inna lanaa lal-aakhirata wal aula

    and to Us belong the Next Life and the present.

14. 92:14

    فَاَنْذَرْتُكُمْ نَارًا تَلَظّٰىۚ

    Fa-andzartukum naaran talazh-zha

    I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire,

15. 92:15

    لَا يَصْلٰىهَآ اِلَّا الْاَشْقَىۙ

    Laa yashlaahaa ilaal asyqa

    where none shall burn except the most wicked,

16. 92:16

    الَّذِيْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىۗ

    Al-ladzii kadz-dzaba watawalla

    who rejected the Truth, calling it falsehood and turned his back on it.

17. 92:17

    وَسَيُجَنَّبُهَا الْاَتْقَىۙ

    Wasayujannabuhaal atqa

    But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it,

18. 92:18

    الَّذِيْ يُؤْتِيْ مَالَهٗ يَتَزَكّٰىۚ

    Al-ladzii yu'tii maalahu yatazakka

    the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself;

19. 92:19

    وَمَا لِاَحَدٍ عِنْدَهٗ مِنْ نِّعْمَةٍ تُجْزٰىٓۙ

    Wamaa ahadin 'indahu min ni'matin tujza

    not as payment for any favours that he received,

20. 92:20

    اِلَّا ابْتِغَاۤءَ وَجْهِ رَبِّهِ الْاَعْلٰىۚ

    Ilaaabtighaa-a wajhi rabbihil a'la

    but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High.

21. 92:21

    وَلَسَوْفَ يَرْضٰى ࣖ

    Walasaufa yardha

    He will surely be well-pleased (with him).
