Walaa tamnun tastaktsir(u)
and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return,
Fa-idzaa nuqira fiinnaaquur(i)
When the Trumpet shall be sounded,
Fadzalika yauma-idzin yaumun 'asiirun
that will surely be a hard day,
'Alal kaafiriina ghairu yasiirin
not an easy day for the unbelievers.
Dzarnii waman khalaqtu wahiidan
Leave Me with him whom I alone have created,
Waja'altu lahu maaalan mamduudan
whom I have endowed with abundant riches,
Wamahhadtu lahu tamhiidan
and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches),
Tsumma yathma'u an aziid(a)
and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more.
Kalaa innahu kaana li-aayaatinaa 'aniidan
By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs.
Tsumma qutila kaifa qaddar(a)
Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme?
Faqaala in hadzaa ilaa sihrun yu'tsar(u)
and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore;
In hadzaa ilaa qaulul basyar(i)
this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!”
Laa tubqii walaa tadzar(u)
It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact;
Wamaa ja'alnaa ashhaabannaari ilaa malaa-ikatan wamaa ja'alnaa 'iddatahum ilaa fitnatal(n)-lil-ladziina kafaruu liyastaiqinal-ladziina uutuul kitaaba wayazdaadal-ladziina aamanuu iimaanan walaa yartaabal-ladziina uutuul kitaaba wal mu'minuuna waliyaquulal-ladziina fii quluubihim maradhun wal kaafiruuna maadzaa araadallahu bihadzaa matsalaa kadzalika yudhillullahu man yasyaa-u wayahdii man yasyaa-u wamaa ya'lamu junuuda rabbika ilaa huwa wamaa hiya ilaa dzikra lilbasyar(i)
We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed.
Wash-shubhi idzaa asfar(a)
and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance),
Innahaa la-ihdal kubar(i)
surely (Hell) is one of the greatest Signs,
Liman syaa-a minkum an yataqaddama au yataakh-khar(a)
a warning to everyone of you whether he would like to come forward or lag behind.
Kullu nafsin bimaa kasabat rahiinatun
Each one is a hostage to one's deeds,
Fii jannaatin yatasaa-aluun(a)
who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask
Qaaluuu lam naku minal mushalliin(a)
They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer,
Walam naku nuth'imul miskiin(a)
and we did not feed the poor,
Wakunnaa nakhuudhu ma'al khaa-idhiin(a)
and we indulged in vain talk with those who indulged in vain talk,
Wakunnaa nukadz-dzibu biyaumiddiin(i)
and we gave the lie to the Day of Judgement
Famaa tanfa'uhum syafaa'atusy-syaafi'iin(a)
The intercession of the intercessors shall then be of no avail to them.
Famaa lahum 'anittadzkirati mu'ridhiin(a)
What is the matter with people that they are turning away from this Exhortation,
Kaannahum humurun mustanfiratun
as though they were frightened wild asses,
Bal yuriidu kulluumri-in minhum an yu'ta shuhufan munasy-syaratan
No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them.
Kalaa bal laa yakhaafuuna-aakhirat(a)
No indeed; the truth is that they have no fear of the Hereafter.
Wamaa yadzkuruuna ilaa an yasyaa-allahu huwa ahluttaqwa wa-ahlul maghfirat(i)
But they will not benefit from it unless Allah Himself so wills. He is worthy to be feared; and He is worthy to forgive (those that fear Him).
