Surah Al-Qiyamah: Arabic, Transliteration & Translation

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

1. 75:1

   لَآ اُقْسِمُ بِيَوْمِ الْقِيٰمَةِۙ

   Laa uqsimu biyaumil qiyaamat(i)

   Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection;

2. 75:2

   وَلَآ اُقْسِمُ بِالنَّفْسِ اللَّوَّامَةِ

   Walaa uqsimu binnafsillau-waamat(i)

   and nay, I swear by the self-reproaching soul!

3. 75:3

   اَيَحْسَبُ الْاِنْسَانُ اَلَّنْ نَّجْمَعَ عِظَامَهٗ ۗ

   Ayahsabu-insaanu allan najma'a 'izhaamah(u)

   Does man imagine that We will not be able to bring his bones together again?

4. 75:4

   بَلٰى قَادِرِيْنَ عَلٰٓى اَنْ نُّسَوِّيَ بَنَانَهٗ

   Bala qaadiriina 'ala an nusau-wiya banaanah(u)

   Yes indeed; We have the power to remould even his finger-tips.

5. 75:5

   بَلْ يُرِيْدُ الْاِنْسَانُ لِيَفْجُرَ اَمَامَهٗۚ

   Bal yuriidu-insaanu liyafjura amaamah(u)

   But man desires to persist in his evil ways.

6. 75:6

   يَسْـَٔلُ اَيَّانَ يَوْمُ الْقِيٰمَةِۗ

   Yasalu ai-yaana yaumul qiyaamat(i)

   He asks: “When will the Day of Resurrection be?”

7. 75:7

   فَاِذَا بَرِقَ الْبَصَرُۙ

   Fa-idzaa bariqal bashar(u)

   When the sight is dazed,

8. 75:8

   وَخَسَفَ الْقَمَرُۙ

   Wakhasafal qamar(u)

   and the moon is eclipsed,

9. 75:9

   وَجُمِعَ الشَّمْسُ وَالْقَمَرُۙ

   Wajumi'asy-syamsu wal qamar(u)

   and the sun and the moon are joined together,

10. 75:10

    يَقُوْلُ الْاِنْسَانُ يَوْمَىِٕذٍ اَيْنَ الْمَفَرُّۚ

    Yaquulu-insaanu yauma-idzin ainal mafarr(u)

    on that Day will man say: “Whither the refuge?”

11. 75:11

    كَلَّا لَا وَزَرَۗ

    Kalaa laa wazar(a)

    No, there is no refuge.

12. 75:12

    اِلٰى رَبِّكَ يَوْمَىِٕذِ ِۨالْمُسْتَقَرُّۗ

    Ila rabbika yauma-idzil mustaqarr(u)

    With your Lord alone will be the retreat that Day.

13. 75:13

    يُنَبَّؤُا الْاِنْسَانُ يَوْمَىِٕذٍۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَ وَاَخَّرَۗ

    Yunabbau-insaanu yauma-idzin bimaa qaddama wa-akh-khar(a)

    On that Day will man be apprised of his deeds, both the earlier and the later.

14. 75:14

    بَلِ الْاِنْسَانُ عَلٰى نَفْسِهٖ بَصِيْرَةٌۙ

    Bali-insaanu 'ala nafsihi bashiiratun

    But lo, man is well aware of himself,

15. 75:15

    وَّلَوْ اَلْقٰى مَعَاذِيْرَهٗۗ

    Walau alqa ma'aadziirah(u)

    even though he might make up excuses.

16. 75:16

    لَا تُحَرِّكْ بِهٖ لِسَانَكَ لِتَعْجَلَ بِهٖۗ

    Laa tuharrik bihi lisaanaka lita'jala bih(i)

    (O Prophet), do not stir your tongue hastily (to commit the Revelation to memory).

17. 75:17

    اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهٗ وَقُرْاٰنَهٗ ۚ

    Inna 'alainaa jam'ahu waquraanah(u)

    Surely it is for Us to have you commit it to memory and to recite it.

18. 75:18

    فَاِذَا قَرَأْنٰهُ فَاتَّبِعْ قُرْاٰنَهٗ ۚ

    Fa-idzaa qara'naahu faattabi' quraanah(u)

    And so when We recite it, follow its recitation attentively;

19. 75:19

    ثُمَّ اِنَّ عَلَيْنَا بَيَانَهٗ ۗ

    Tsumma inna 'alainaa bayaanah(u)

    then it will be for Us to explain it.

20. 75:20

    كَلَّا بَلْ تُحِبُّوْنَ الْعَاجِلَةَۙ

    Kalaa bal tuhibbuunal 'aajilat(a)

    Nay; the truth is that you love ardently (the good of this world) that can be obtained hastily,

21. 75:21

    وَتَذَرُوْنَ الْاٰخِرَةَۗ

    Watadzaruuna-aakhirat(a)

    and are oblivious of the Hereafter.

22. 75:22

    وُجُوْهٌ يَّوْمَىِٕذٍ نَّاضِرَةٌۙ

    Wujuuhun yauma-idzin naadhiratun

    Some faces on that Day will be fresh and resplendent,

23. 75:23

    اِلٰى رَبِّهَا نَاظِرَةٌ ۚ

    Ila rabbihaa naazhiratun

    and will be looking towards their Lord;

24. 75:24

    وَوُجُوْهٌ يَّوْمَىِٕذٍۢ بَاسِرَةٌۙ

    Wawujuuhun yauma-idzin baasiratun

    and some faces on that Day will be gloomy,

25. 75:25

    تَظُنُّ اَنْ يُّفْعَلَ بِهَا فَاقِرَةٌ ۗ

    Tazhunnu an yuf'ala bihaa faaqiratun

    believing that a crushing calamity is about to strike them.

26. 75:26

    كَلَّآ اِذَا بَلَغَتِ التَّرَاقِيَۙ

    Kalaa idzaa balaghatittaraaqiy(a)

    Nay; when a man's soul reaches up to the throat,

27. 75:27

    وَقِيْلَ مَنْ ۜرَاقٍۙ

    Waqiila man raaqin

    and it is said: “Is there any enchanter who can step forward and help (by his chanting)?”

28. 75:28

    وَّظَنَّ اَنَّهُ الْفِرَاقُۙ

    Wazhanna annahul firaaq(u)

    and he realises that the hour of parting is come,

29. 75:29

    وَالْتَفَّتِ السَّاقُ بِالسَّاقِۙ

    Wal taffatissaaqu bissaaq(i)

    and calf is inter-twined with calf.

30. 75:30

    اِلٰى رَبِّكَ يَوْمَىِٕذِ ِۨالْمَسَاقُ ۗ ࣖ

    Ila rabbika yauma-idzil masaaq(u)

    On that Day you will be driven to your Lord.

31. 75:31

    فَلَا صَدَّقَ وَلَا صَلّٰىۙ

    Falaa shaddaqa walaa shall(a)

    But he did not verify the Truth, nor did he observe Prayer;

32. 75:32

    وَلٰكِنْ كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلّٰىۙ

    Walakin kadz-dzaba watawall(a)

    on the contrary, he gave the lie to the Truth and turned his back upon it,

33. 75:33

    ثُمَّ ذَهَبَ اِلٰٓى اَهْلِهٖ يَتَمَطّٰىۗ

    Tsumma dzahaba ila ahlihi yatamath-th(a)

    then he went back to his kinsfolk, elated with pride.

34. 75:34

    اَوْلٰى لَكَ فَاَوْلٰىۙ

    Aula laka fa-aul(a)

    This (attitude) is worthy of you, altogether worthy;

35. 75:35

    ثُمَّ اَوْلٰى لَكَ فَاَوْلٰىۗ

    Tsumma aula laka fa-aul(a)

    again, it is worthy of you, altogether worthy.

36. 75:36

    اَيَحْسَبُ الْاِنْسَانُ اَنْ يُّتْرَكَ سُدًىۗ

    Ayahsabu-insaanu an yutraka sudan

    Does man think that he will be left alone, unquestioned?

37. 75:37

    اَلَمْ يَكُ نُطْفَةً مِّنْ مَّنِيٍّ يُّمْنٰى

    Alam yaku nuthfatan min manii-yin yumn(a)

    Was he not a drop of ejaculated semen,

38. 75:38

    ثُمَّ كَانَ عَلَقَةً فَخَلَقَ فَسَوّٰىۙ

    Tsumma kaana 'alaqatan fakhalaqa fasau-w(a)

    then he became a clot, and then Allah made it into a living body and proportioned its parts,

39. 75:39

    فَجَعَلَ مِنْهُ الزَّوْجَيْنِ الذَّكَرَ وَالْاُنْثٰىۗ

    Faja'ala minhuzzaujainidz-dzakara wal ants(a)

    and then He made of him a pair, male and female?

40. 75:40

    اَلَيْسَ ذٰلِكَ بِقٰدِرٍ عَلٰٓى اَنْ يُّحْيِ َۧ الْمَوْتٰى ࣖ

    Alaisa dzalika biqaadirin 'ala an yuhyiyal maut(a)

    Does He, then, not have the power to bring back the dead to life?
